Leather Care and Maintenance

Pulling off a leather jacket is always very satisfying. To keep this confidence alive, our leather jackets do require some TLC from time to time. For different types of leather, periodic leather conditioning of genuine Bovine Steer Hide will increase its longevity and enhance the beauty of the leather by creating a rich patina over time. For Authentic Natural Lamb Leatherperiodic leather conditioning will provide a soft and luxurious touch to the jacket while maintaining its original leather looks.

The key to any leather care is correct and timely conditioning. We recommend applying oil-based conditioning which can also be found in your kitchen or home:

  • Coconut oil is an excellent choice that is not only hypoallergenic (will not cause an allergic reaction) but also good for the leather jacket’s endurance. Lemon oil is also widely used as a cleanser for leather jackets.
  • One great way to condition your jacket is to gently massage the surface of the jacket with a cloth dipped in small quantities of both lemon and coconut oil.
  • The advantages of this duo combination are the prevention of leather cracking as well as the natural fresh scent that is added to the jacket.
  • Flaxseed oil is another great option for creating a leather conditioner. Like coconut oil, flaxseed oil is also hypoallergenic.
  • Another route to creating a finished leather conditioner would be to try a beeswax-based leather conditioner but that requires some more ingredients and some preparation time.

Regardless of going for a homemade or store-bought leather conditioner, the key is to always start in selected areas with small portions and work your way through the entire jacket. Once you see results, you can be sure that you are on the right path of adding some TLC to all your favourite products.

Remember NOT to WASH, BLEACH, TUMBLE DRY OR IRON your leather jacket. For deep cleaning, we recommend consulting a leather specialist.
